In times of need, Google has always been that friend in need, from giving the right directions to giving the best of answers to everything we can ever ask for. In no time, Google became the King of Internet and today, we cannot imagine our world without Google, so much so that word actually has become a verb these days! 1. Google’s tribute to Steve Jobs when he died
Though Google and Steve Jobs actually became rivals after Google launched its Android version following Apple’s steps, Google had its own quirky way of paying a tribute to Steve Jobs. Google paid tribute to him by hyperlinking its homepage to Apple website www.apple.com.
2. This was Google’s first tweet ever!
The tweet actually reads, “I’m feeling lucky“, in case you don’t read binary!
3. Google ended up buying its own domain name once!
A guy once bought the domain name ‘Google.com’ for just $12 as Google mistakenly put up its own domain name on sale. Sanmay Ved, an ex googler was just messing up on the web when he typed ‘google.com’ while searching for domain names in Google Domains Interface.
Surprisingly the domain was available. The firm had to repurchase its own domain for $12,000 to get it back! Though the money the guy got went straight to charity!
4. The original name of Google was Backrub!
It was in the late 90’s that Larry Page and Sergey Brin were working on a search engine naming it Backrub! Why Backrub? Since their search engine searched through backlinks. Though Backrub was its initial name, Google is actually a misspelling of a real life mathematical term, Googol, which is a term for 10 to the power of 100.
5. Google was once down for 5 minutes
Google is the one site that never goes down because if it did, the world would stop! But on August 16, 2013, Google was not reachable for a full 5 minutes. During that time the Internet usage went down by 40%.
6. The Google homepage is available in 80 languages.
The last languages that have been added to Google are Hausa, Igbo, Yoruba, Somali, Zulu, Mongolian, Nepali, Punjabi, and Maori.

Google is known to have the largest index of websites in the world which is around 3 billion. If you print the index you would get a 130 miles high stack of paper. And Google searches through all of these indexes in less than half a second!
9. In 1997, Google wanted to see its search engine to Yahoo for just $2 million!
But Yahoo didn’t accept this offer. Later, Yahoo wanted to get back to the offer and kept forward an offer of 3 Billion in 20002. But this time Google was in no mood to accept! Today, Yahoo is quite an obsolete name when it comes to comparisons with Google. Guess, we all chose our own destiny!
10. There are only 16% to 20% of all the searches that have never been searched on Google ever before!
According to this, there are millions of searches that happen on Google, that have never been searched before.
