10 Of The Most Ridiculous Product Placements In Bollywood Movies We’ve Seen Till Now
Movies are genuinely a great platform to market products.
Product placements are quite ‘in the face’ in Bollywood. The funniest part is that they make it so obvious and imply that the audience is blind and can’t see what they want to sell. This list does include good movies and we really hope Bollywood keeps it subtle when it comes to selling products.
#1 Koi Mil Gaya – Bournvita and Coca-Cola
Koi Mil Gaya was a brilliant movie but we really wish Jadoo didn’t drink coca-cola. While the Hollywood movie, E.T also drank Coca-Cola and loved it. No, we’re not kidding. Rakesh Roshan’s ode to E.T went a little too far with Jadoo drinking Coca-Cola. Koi Mil Gaya, Krrish, and Krrish 3 have one thing in common other than Hrithik Roshan and it is Bournvita. We played spot the Bournvita and it was fun.
#2 Chennai Express- Nokia
Chennai Express broke some records at the box office but this product placement made us want to break the screen. The way Shah Rukh Khan yells at the top of his voice about the Rs 95,000 Nokia when the goons throw it away. And not to forget the close-up shot later. The scene could have been avoided but why should we argue?
#3 Zindagi Milegi Na Dobaara- Mountain Dew
We loved the everything about ZMND but not the idea of making the trio drink ‘Mountain Dew’. Not only do they drink Mountain Dew but Farhan Akhtar also says”Darr ke aagey jeet hai”. The Nokia pink phone was subtle but this wasn’t.
#4 Yaadien- Pass Pass and Coca-Cola
Who remembers this Hrithik-Kareena movie? The amusing promotion of Coca-Cola and Pass pass was unforgettable. Do we want to know why? These screenshots are taken from one song. You can see how both the products are playing cupid.
#5 Taal- Coca-Cola
We still adore the movie and the music is evergreen. Guess what happens when Aishwarya and Akshay meet for the first time? They share a coca-cola. We’re just going to leave this here.
#6 Half Girlfriend- Make My Trip, Close-Up, and Hero Maestro.
The product placement was as half-baked as the story.
#7 Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayengey- Stroh’s beer.
Shah Rukh Khan actually mentioned the beer brand and it seemed like a forced dialogue.
#8 Chak De India- McDonald’s
If anyone has seen the movie, they remember the fight that took place in McDonald’s.
#9 Shahenshah- Black Dog
“Jab bhi mein kisi gori haseena ko dekhta hoon, toh mere dil mein sainkdon kaale kutte daud-ne lag jaate hai. Tab main Black Dog whisky peeta hoon.”
Do we need to say anything?
#10 Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani- Make My Trip and Fox Traveller.
The tie-ups were sensible but at some point, it did get a little too much!
