8 Of The Most Iconic Onscreen Outfits Worn By Actresses In Bollywood Film History!

I like to think of myself as an amateur Fashionista, so when I’m watching a film, especially a Bollywood film, I’m often more interested in what they’re wearing than anything. But don’t go calling me superficial yet, because everyone knows that it’s attention to details like these that make a good movie great.
A good outfit stays forever ingrained in the audience’s memory, and we definitely won’t be forgetting these anytime soon!

1. Rekha’s Anarkali Suit in Umraao Jaan ( 1981)

The detailing, the cut and the flair of the pearl-hued brocade dress all came together to create the most mesmerising effect when Rekha danced.

2. Madhuri Dixit ’s Green Lehenga in Devdas (2002)

The beautifully embroidered semi-sheer lehenga inspired by Calcutta of the 30s became as big of a hit as the song she danced to in it – Maar Daala.

3. Zeenat Aman’s Hippie Look in Hare Rama Hare Krishna (1971)

Zeenat’s colourful kurta teamed with bell-bottomed pants, rose-tinted sunnies, winged eyeliner, and other offbeat accessories in the song Dum Maro Dum began a new chapter in bohemian fashion.

4. Sridevi’s Blue Chiffon Saree in Mr. India (1987)

This nine-yard might have just looked simple on other women, but on Sridevi it became a style statement.

5. Dimple Kapadia’s Polka-Dotted Blouse in Bobby (1973)

Dimple’s sexy polka dotted tie-up top and short skirt became a huge rage amongst teenage girls in the 70s, and with good reason.

6. Raveena Tandon’s Yellow Saree in Mohra (1994)

A soaking wet Raveena set the screen on fire in Tip Tip Barsa Paani thanks to her sexy moves and chiffon saree. Her backless blouse just added more oomph to the whole getup.

7. Deepika Padukone’s Pink Lehenga in Om Shanti Om (2007)

The tight pink lehenga with silver embellishments was probably a reference to Hema Malini’s pink saree in 1997’s Dream Girl,  seeing as she inspired the character of Shantipriya.

8. Mumtaz’s Wrapped Saree in Brahmachari (1968)

Mumtaz started one of the biggest saree trends ever with the gorgeous tangerine saree she wore and she danced to Aj kal tere mere pyaar ke charchey.
