The first thing you need to make a film is a budget. Of course, you need to have the story in place. But what good is a great story if there is no money to present it to the audience. Sanjay Leela Bhansali is a pro at creating a great balance with the story and alloting a huge amount of budget to make it come alive.
Sanjay Leela Bhansali gets into the skin of the story and creates an extravagant world that an audience would get lost in. Whether it is the beautiful scene from Saawariya or the grandiose of Bajirao Mastani setting. His sets and budget are quite indulgent and make sure that the movie is always a brilliant cinematic experience for the audience.
Here are his movies rated lowest to highest as per budget.
#1. SLB had to create an entire city that was completely imaginary. This imaginary city included lakes, streets, clock tower and the works.
#2. Parts of the movie were shot in Budapest. Not Italy like it was shown. Must have been really expensive to take the cast and crew there.
#3. The movie was highly controversial when it released and was much talked about.
#4. A very expensive set was built just for the song “Nagada Sang Dhol” at Film City. Some parts of the film were also filmed in Udaipur.
#5. SLB recreated the 20th Century Kolkata complete with the artificial lake, temple, city and Chandramukhi’s kotha. 122,000,008 pieces of stained glass were used to create Paro’s room in the haveli. It was magnificent!
#6. The exact replica of Shaniwar Wada and the Aaina Mahal were created for which it took forty-five thousand planks and six hundred workers a day to erect the set.
#7. SLB left no stones unturned to make this film. The movie is set to be his grandest project and certainly the most challenging of them.
