Dhoom 4 Needs A Good Villain & We Think Shah Rukh’s ‘Don’ Is The Perfect Fit For The Franchise
Yash Raj Films, lend me your ears!
Dhoom is arguably one of the biggest franchises in Bollywood history.
While the first and the second installments were good, Dhoom 3 was not what fans of the series expected from the makers. Despite its major commercial success, the Dhoom franchise has little to gain from Dhoom 3‘s direction.
This is where I come in. I will try and construct the perfect pitch for Dhoom 4. Why, you ask? Because I am one of those guys who spends a lot of time discussing random Bollywood topics to fight the monotony of life.
While most people like going out on weekends for a party, I prefer sitting on the couch and thinking of bizarre scenarios that could make my favourite movies better. Dhoom 4 is just one of those movies.
To make a good movie for the franchise, we need to understand exactly what worked so well for Dhoom. This franchise has never been about the protagonists.
Uday Chopra and Abhishek Bachchan aren’t the heroes of the movie, the villains are. Kabir worked really well and so did Aryan. Amir Khan should have been a good addition to this list but he lacked any sort of charisma on screen.
Without a decent villain, Dhoom 3 didn’t impress us as much as it should have. This is precisely why Yash Raj should take their chances with casting a decent antagonist.
And you know which actor, who has been close to the banner, is a good fit here? Shah Rukh Khan.
But this won’t be enough if SRK makes a new entry to the franchise. A lot of time is spent in these movies to flesh out the motivation of the villain and it feels extremely tedious. We need a pre-existing character to make an entry and steal the show.
Which character has SRK played which can remotely qualify for the Dhoom franchise? There’s one – Don.
I know that Don is the intellectual property of another production house but this tie-up between Yash Raj and Excel Entertainment can turn into one of the highest grossing Bollywood movie of all time.
Shah Rukh is the thread that can bring these two production houses on-board and the sheer possibility of seeing Don as the main antagonist for the new Dhoom movie is way too good an opportunity for us.
Considering the character that Don is, he might even manage to find Kabir and make him the muscle for his heist. Also, please show us the actual heist and the chase sequence. Just looking at Ali and Jay chase the thief isn’t good enough. Show us elaborate heists and mix it up with characters. This is how it is supposed to be.
This is the movie India needs. And for the love of everything that’s holy, Yash Raj needs to work on this.
What do you think about this? Is there a better pitch you have for Dhoom 4? Do let us know in the comment section.
