Designer Gianni Versace’s Controversial Murder Was What Nightmares Are Made Of

We all know the brand Versace but did you know the man behind it was murdered by a serial killer?

Versace is one of the world’s premier luxury brands and the man behind it, Gianni Versace, was an undisputed genius.

But he was tragically shot dead in front of his mansion in Miami Beach in 1997.

His clientele included Princess Diana, Elton John, Madonna and Naomi Campbell. Versace wasn’t a Casanova or a playboy, he was with his partner Antonio D’Amico for 15 years. Last year was the first time in two decades that Antonia spoke about the murder.

“My heart just stopped to beat,” he told Dateline earlier this year, his first time speaking out about the murder. “So I ran out and then I saw Gianni laying down on the stairs in blood.”

Versace was counted as the fifth known person a serial killer named Andrew Cunanan had killed in the span of three months. The murder was everything nightmares are made of. The crime is also known as “the crime America is guilty of”. The murder shook everyone and the world couldn’t afford to feel safe anymore.

This is what Versace’s sister had to say:

“When my brother was murdered, I had the eyes of the whole world on me and 99 percent of them thought I wasn’t going to make it,” Donatella, who took over as head of the family business and remains chief designer and vice president of the Versace Group, reminisced to The Guardian in September. “And maybe I thought the same, at first. My brother was the king, and my whole world had crashed around me.”

The killer Andrew Cunanan, was a man with high IQ, a handsome witty 27-year-old who killed 5 people in the span of three months. He was found dead 8 days after he killed Versace. He committed suicide on a houseboat decked at Intercostal Waterway, it was less than three miles away from Versace’s mansion.

The whole deal with Cunanan was a mystery, why he killed 5 people in the span of 3 months, whether he knew Versace or how did he end up in Miami. Unfortunately, this remains the crime that could have been avoided.

The story of the murder and manhunt unveils on a series known as ‘The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story’. Gianni Versace is portrayed by Edgar Ramirez and Andrew Cunanan is portrayed by Darren Criss. Here’s the spine-chilling trailer:
