Case Filed Against The Viral ‘Priya Prakash Varrier’ Song For Hurting Religious Sentiments
Over the last few days, an 18-year-old has taken over the internet with a shy-yet-mischievous wink. Priya Prakash Varrier’s popularity on the internet has led to the full video of the song reach 9 million view on YouTube.
The song shot to fame when certain pages made a ‘meme’ out of the wink. The meme is actually a screenshot from the song Manikya Malaraya Poovi. The song is a part of the Malayalam film Oru Adaar Love and it went viral. Suddenly – everything on the internet does work that way, doesn’t it? – we were blasted with this clip from the film.
Priya had the third highest rise in the number of followers on Instagram of all time. She finished third behind Cristiano Ronaldo and Kylie Jenner.
But much like the rise of this sensation, haters were soon to come out in full force. Soon a police complaint was filed because someone got their religious sentiments hurt over this song.
The complaint has been filed at Falaknuma Police station in Hyderabad. The complainant says nothing against the actors but states that the song’s lyrics are against Muslim sentiments and are offensive to the followers of Prophet Mohammad.
The complainant Muqueet Khan told CNN-Newws18,
“I tried to sing the song and when I checked the translation, it was about Prophet Mohammad. A girl and boy are romancing but linking background with religious sentiments. I will not take back my complaint. I have checked on Youtube and then filed my complaint”.
Oru Adaar Love revolves around the love story of two students and warmth of friendship.
