Bollywood Needs To Make The Most Of The Brilliant Talent Of These Underrated Actresses
Like any other industry, Bollywood needs to realise the true potential of its members and make the most out of it!
Bollywood is a hero-dominated industry. We’re a country where the difference between the reel and the real life is often blurred as countless fans flock to theaters every Friday just to catch a glimpse of their favourite stars on the big screen.
In this rat-race for box-office collections and this insane competition to join the 100-crore club, Bollywood has often ignored great performances to make way for star-kids. Quite often, great concepts are ruined by actors and actresses who specialise in looking a certain way but fail to have more than two expressions on their faces.
With changing times, we’ve seen the Indian audiences appreciate good cinema. The success of small budget movies like Masaan and Fukrey are testament to that fact. If the producers are looking forward to making good movies, they need to hire good talent.
These are a few underrated actresses who need to get more potent roles by our producers:
1. Radhika Apte
Radhika has already made a name for herself in a short-span of time. The actress has turned a lot of heads with stellar performances and a brilliant filmography. She’s known for her commendable performances in Badlapur, Hunterr and Manjhi The Mountain Man.
2. Richa Chadda
While Richa Chadda has been in the industry from a long time (We loved her in Oye Lucky! Lucky, Oye!), she shot to fame with her mind-blowing performance in Gangs Of Wasseypur Part 1 and Part 2. She is one of the rare actresses who knows what she wants and we love her for that. It’s time we see Richa Chadda in a leading role for a big budget movie!
3. Divya Dutta
In this time and age where most female actors are striving to make a name for themselves in the Bollywood industry with item songs or major acting roles, some like Divya Dutta maintain their position and leave an impact in the minds of their audience while doing supporting or minor roles.
4. Sandhya Mridul
If you try to think of a good off-beat movie that has come out in the last few years, chances are pretty high that the movie features Sandhya. She is a phenomenal actress who has time and again delivered stunning performances.
5. Swara Bhaskar
Swara Bhaskar has carved a niche for herself by choosing lead roles in absolutely amazing off-beat movies. She has stuck to her strengths and has been very consistent with her brilliance on-screen.
6. Huma Qureshi
Huma started her Bollywood career on a high with Gangs of Wasseypur. Her role as the small-town girl who is heavily influenced by Bollywood and the biggest support for a notorious gangster was the perfect blend of character-traits that had the audiences reeling. She has managed to do a lot of movies where she has been brilliant. It’s high time bigger banners do a movie with her.
7. Mahie Gill
DevD; Saheb, Biwi Aur Gaangster and Gulaal are testament to the brilliance of Mahie. She has always hit the nail of its head with scintillating performances and we really can’t get enough of her brilliance.
8. Monali Thakur
Better known as the singer who sang Sawaar Loon, Monali made her debut last year with a beautiful film called Lakshmi that explored the themes of child trafficking and prostitution. Although her performance was recognized at the DC South Asian Film Festival, she hasn’t exactly been welcome as an actor by us Indians.
9. Shilpa Shukla
Mostly famous for her role in ChakDe! India, Shilpa is surely underrated. She is a very powerful performer, and gets into the flesh of intense and intimidating characters with ease (B.A.Pass, c’mon!).
10. Shefali Shah
Shefali is not just beautiful, she’s also a lesser-known actress; but brilliant nevertheless. With films like Lakshmi, The Last Lear and Satya to her credit, she’s undeniably outstanding.
11. Shernaz Patel
We’ve seen her in the likes of Guzaarish, Black, Talaash and Rockstar, and she has won my heart each time. Simplistic portrayal and gorgeous expressions are her assets.
