10 Of The Biggest International Music Bands That Have Performed In India
While India has, for the most part, been obsessed with Bollywood music, the recent influx of music concerts and festivals in the country has given fans other genres a chance to come together and enjoy the music they love live and on stage.
Here’s a lineup of the biggest international bands whom we can thank for contributing significantly to the growing live music scene in India.
1. Iron Maiden
Iron Maiden has performed twice in India.
The first was back in March 2007, when they were promoting the fourteenth studio album, ‘A Matter of Life and Death’.
They returned to Bangalore on February 15th, 2009, for a concert that was a part of their ‘Somewhere Back in the World Tour’.
Aerosmith’s World Tour 2007 saw the American hard rock band perform in India for the first time on June 2nd, 2007 at the Palace Grounds in Bangalore.
Heavy metal band Megadeth headlined the first Rock ‘n India music festival on 14th March 2008. They returned to India in 2014 to headline the MTV Xtreme festival.
4. Porcupine Tree
Steven Wilson’s rock band performed for the first time ever in India on December 21st, 2010, at IIT Bombay’s annual rock festival, Livewire.
They played a 100-minute set for the 5000-strong audience.
Metallica performed before a crowd of 40,000 spectators at the Palace Grounds in Bangalore on the 30th of October, 2011.
The concert was part of their promotions for their album, Lulu.
6. Poets of The Fall
Poets of the Fall performed in India for the first time in November 2011 as a part of the ‘Great Indian Octoberfest’ in Bangalore. The next year they played at IIT Kanpur annual cultural festival Antaragni.
The thrash metal band performed in Bangalore on 20th October 2012 as part of the Rock ’n India music festival, making their entry with World Painted Blood.
8. Guns N’ Roses
The American hard rock band toured India in the December of 2012 and performed in Mumbai, Bangalore and Delhi.
American rock band Hoobastank performed in Shillong, India’s rock capital on their maiden visit to the country.
The concert in June 2013 was part of the band’s tour to promote their album Fight or Flight.
The British rock band’s first performance in India was at the Global Citizen Festival in Mumbai in November 2016. They played for an audience of over 80,000 eager fans.
