Mumbai Gets Its First Electric Buses And Here’s Everything You Need To Know About Them

Anyone who lives in Mumbai is familiar with travelling in BEST buses.


Mumbai without BEST buses would be like a heart without a heartbeat. According to Quora, there are around 30 lakh people who travel by BEST buses daily but we bet there are many more. The city can’t work without the BEST buses working smoothly.

They have newly launched emission electric buses and there will be four buses that will be added to the city’s fleet. The move has been made to help cut fuel cost to provide a more environment-friendly mode of transport. There are seven routes have been added to South Mumbai. This is everything you need to know about the new addition to your daily life.

#1 The electric buses need 3 hours to charge and they can run 200 km at a stretch. The charging point is only at Backbay Depot.

#2 They run only on electricity and cause less air pollution.


 #3 The routes now are Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSTM) and Churchgate station including Route Number 138 from Backbay depot to CSMT and the Fort Ferry route.

#4 The new buses have been purchased with the assistance of the BMC and each cost around 1.61 crores.


#5 The buses have a capacity to take 30 people from one place to another.

#6 It is said that BMC had allotted 100 crores to the BEST buses.


#7 The BMC brought 185 regular buses for Rs 90 crores and rest of the Rs 10 crores were used for the electric buses.
