9 Hindi Songs That Secretly Made Their Way To Hollywood Movies

Music is universal despite the language. It lends a unique flavor when used in movies as a soundtrack. You would be surprised that Indian songs are not just reserved for the local films. Some of the Indian OST have gone on to feature in Hollywood films as well.

These Hollywood films have featured Indian songs as soundtracks to move forward the storyline.

#1. Mera Man Tera Pyaasa – Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind

The song plays when Joel Barish and Clementine are hanging out at the apartment. The scene shows the beginning of their relationship. This Mohammed Rafi song perfectly fits in the film.

#2. Sanson Ki Mala – Remember Me

The original bhajan was apparently sung by a Rajput Princess Meerabai in the worship of her Lord Krishna. Over the years, it has been covered by many artists including the legendary Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan.  The song features in a scene where the lead characters of Remember Me are at an Indian restaurant and placing their orders.

#3. Jaan Pehchaan – Ghost World

The movie starring Scarlett Johansson starts with this Hindi song. It plays through the title credit when we are introduced to the characters.

#4.  Chaiyaa Chaiyaa – Inside Man

Once again Hollywood uses a Bollywood track as part of their title credits and it does fit into the movie’s theme perfectly. The song replays again in the end credit of this heist film, tying the beginning and the end.

#5. Chamma Chamma – Moulin Rouge

The most extravagant musical of all time was known for its epic costumes, music, and grandiose. The Chamma Chamma song appears just before Nicole Kidman breaks out in her Diamond’s best friend performance.

#6. Urvasi Urvasi – Lion

Is there anything more adorable than watching Dev Patel strolling merrily to Urvasi Urvasi in the film Lion! That scene is just the ideal way to sneak in foreign soundtrack without overwhelming the audience. The desi audience surely was surprised to find an Indian soundtrack in the Hollywood film.

#7. Mera Joota Hai Japani – Deadpool

If there is any desi song that described the quirky anti-hero, it is Mera Joota Hai Japani. The song plays in the taxi scene where Deadpool just gets his new suit and plies the taxi like a boss. He chooses to chat up the Indian taxi driver just to pass time with the song playing in the background.

#8.Tere Bin Nahi Lagda Dholna – Bend It Like Beckham

This was the movie that made all the NRIs settled in the UK to sit up and take notice. The sports-centric movie directed by  Gurinder Chadha had a desi twang because it represented the NRI section of the society. The movie smartly used the song Tere Bin Nahi Lagda Dholna to move the screenplay.

#9. Yaaro Yaarodi/ Chhalka Chhalka Re –  The Accidental Husband

The Accidental Husband featured the soundtrack from the original version of Saathiya. The Tamil song was later converted into Chhalka Chhalka Re in the Vivek Oberoi and Rani Mukherjee starrer. The song perfectly matches the beat of the character in the Hollywood film, surprisingly.
