2017 Oscars Was The Most Dramatic Ever, Here Are The Highlights
Oscars or The Academy Awards is the biggest night of Hollywood film industry. The 89th Academy Awards 2017 witnessed the stars in the most fashionable attire walk down the red carpet amidst the shutterbug. From grand gift hampers to the crème de la crème of haute couture, Oscars is all about putting the best foot forward. It not only validates great performances but also star power and creates new benchmarks for filmmaking.
This year too the Oscars took a dramatic turn and seems to be making progress from the last year’s “White Oscars”. Here are the memorable moments from Oscars 2017 that made us a fan of the award show all over again.
1.The Best Picture Goof-up
As per most Oscar predictions, La La Land was the most notable contender for the Best Picture win. This came true. Or not. Oscars did a Steve Harvey and went down in history as the biggest disasters ever. The Academy Awards took a dramatic turn when the wrong Best Picture was announced as a winner!
The error came to light when La La Land took to stage to accept their award. Turns out La La Land didn’t win the Best Picture as per prediction, the night belonged to the film Moonlight. The Moonlight team sure had their moment of heartbreak and elation just in a moment.

2.Dev Patel brings his mom as date for Oscars
There is no question that Dev Patel is a stellar young actor, especially with his performance in Lion for which he was nominated. Although he didn’t win the award he had all the ladies swooning when he brought his mom as a date for his Oscar night. His mom Anita, was quoted saying “This is unbelievable!” to Ryan Seacrest at the Red Carpet chat. She was clearly mind blown with the razzle and dazzle of the ceremony.
3.Viola Davis’ Speech Is Just That Good
Viola Davis gave a textbook perfect performance in Fences. She rightly won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress for her role in the film. She gave a heartfelt speech and was visibly emotional and elated.
“You know, there is one place that all the people with the greatest potential are gathered and that’s the graveyard. People ask me all the time — what kind of stories do you want to tell, Viola? And I say exhume those bodies. Exhume those stories — the stories of the people who dreamed big and never saw those dreams to fruition, people who fell in love and lost.”
With this Academy Award, she became the first black actress to win Tony, Emmy, and the beloved Oscars.
4.Mahershala Ali makes history!
It is no secret that Mahershala Ali won critics and viewers heart for his role in Moonlight. It was a dazzling result of his efforts that he won an Oscar for Best Actor in Supporting Role for Moonlight. The win was not just any win either, with this Oscar, Mahershala Ali became the first Muslim actor ever to win the Oscar.
This win comes in light of the travel ban imposed by the infamous President Donald Trump. It was truly a result that sets the records right and strengthens the people’s faith in democracy.
5.Hollywood making a statement with Blue ACLU ribbons
Even if he wasn’t present at the ceremony, Trump still had a presence at the Oscars. Many Hollywood stalwarts were wearing blue ACLU ribbons on the red carpet to protest against Donald Trump’s travel ban. American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) is essentially a political movement that defends the rights and liberties of people in the USA. Trump with his undemocratic ban and inappropriate statements was clearly the target. Busy Philipps, Ruth Negga, and model Karlie Kloss were some of the stars seen wearing tiny blue ribbon showing their solidarity against such prejudiced legislation.
6. Priyanka Chopra dazzles the Red Carpet
Priyanka Chopra seems to be the IT girl of Hollywood. She never fails to show her bold style and persona and is always on point in the limelight. This time too she managed to blow our minds with her super stylish fashion sense. She arrived at the Oscars dressed in a striking silver Ralph and Russo ensemble. The gorgeous dress goes with her shining stardom.
Oscars this year truly when all guns blazing on the diversity front and made noise for all the right reasons. Well…except for the goof-up! 😛
