15 Bollywood Actresses From The 2000s Who Completely Vanished From The Movies
The show business can be a difficult place to break into. But more than breaking in, it is difficult to hold on to your place in the limelight. Those who manage to do this, survive in the industry. The others, however, just fall by the wayside.
There were a host of new actresses who made their debuts in the 2000s, but only a handful of them are still around. Let’s have a look at those actresses who dissolved into obscurity, soon after.
#1 Antara Mali
She was touted as RGV’s next find and Urmila Matondkar’s heir apparent. Despite considerable talent and a distinct look, however, her career soon faded owing to bad choices.
#2 Tanushree Dutta
She made heads turn in her debut film Aashiq Banaya Aapne, which followed her Miss India coronation. What was missing was acting talent. Last heard, she’s now a monk.
#3 Udita Goswami
She made her debut with Paap, and followed it up with Zeher and Aksar. Inability to find work outside the Bhatt camp led to her downfall. She married Mohit Suri eventually, and is now a DJ.
#4 Sneha Ullal
The Aishwarya Rai-doppelganger got just two movies in Bollywood- Lucky and Aryan. She soon headed down south where she got much more success.
#5 Nisha Kothari
Another one of RGV’s ‘finds’, Nisha Kothari had undeniable oomph. But zero acting chops. She soon resorted to item numbers before fading away.
#6 Kim Sharma
One of the women who debuted in Mohabbatein, she had the least semblance of a career, out of all the newcomers on offer. She’s now married to businessman Ali Punjani and based in Nairobi, Kenya.
#7 Isha Sharvani
She made a promising debut in Kisna, but was mostly cast for her dance talent, than acting. She soon vanished from the movies and was last seen on the reality show Jhalak Dikhla Jaa.
#8 Sandali Sinha
Another actress who had a promising debut (Tum Bin), but couldn’t follow it up with anything substantial.
#9 Esha Deol
The Deol heiress got numerous opportunities, including a role in the blockbuster Dhoom (2004). But she could never make good on those.
#10 Ayesha Takia
Ayesha Takia actually had a decent run in Bollywood. However, most of her films tanked at the Box Office, despite her best efforts. She is married to businessman Farhan Azmi, the son of politician Abu Azmi.
#11 Isha Koppikar
The Khallas girl was a good performer and extremely attractive. However, she never got a breakthrough role that could’ve propelled her towards stardom.
#12 Geeta Basra
She only appeared in two films- Dil Diya Hai (2006) and The Train (2007). A few inconsequential roles, and item numbers later, she married Harbhajan Singh and quit films altogether. She did appear in a couple of Punjabi films last year, though.
#13 Amrita Arora
Her acting abilities were questionable, at best. And after getting married, and (almost) quitting films, she is now only visible in Mumbai’s social circuit.
#14 Celina Jaitley
To be fair to her, after making her debut in Janasheen, she barely stood a chance. She’s now married and recently did a kickass pregnancy photoshoot.
#15 Gracy Singh
Within a single decade, she went from starring with Aamir Khan to Kamaal R Khan. Do we need say more?
It’s rather sad that the shelf life of an actress in mainstream Hindi cinema is only of a few years. It is however, heartening to see actresses like Katrina Kaif and Priyanka Chopra breaking that mold by having careers that have lasted for more than 15 years and are still going strong.
Are there any more actresses from the past decade that you guys remember? Do let us know in the comments below!
