12 Of The Most Useless Things That Trended On Our Social Media In 2017

2017 is officially coming to an end and we are all gearing up for a brand new year ahead. Though the year 2017 has been one roller coaster ride, things sometimes did surface up and take over the social media with a storm. From fidget spinners to Kangana and Hrithik fighting like racoons, we have seen it all this year. So let’s play the rewind button as we get you 12 utterly useless social media trends we invested our time in.

1. Kapil Sharma-Sunil Grover Spat

The verbal spat between Kapil Sharma and Sunil Grover had us like mediators trying to pacify two kids down. Let alone the cold war still going on, the peer pressure we had to go through to stay updated was beyond explanation.

2. Priyanka Chopra’s MET Gala Chai Dress MAy

The Ralph Lauren trench coat gown didn’t really go well with the mango people. Priyanka was hopelessly trolled and we just couldn’t stop laughing at the tweets that kept us busy for a very long time.

3. Pehredaar Piya Ki

Social media go red hot with anger when ‘Pehredaar Piya Ki’ and its paedophilic romance story made it to google trends. We still have goosebumps from those PPK days and their cringy episodes. Not to mention we got the show off air! Sorry Tejaswi, nothing personal though!

4. Sonu Nigam vs Azaan

We were kind of stuck in between when Sonu Nigam‘s tweet about Azaan ended up in useless iterations and eventually cost Sonu Nigam his hair! The hair is back and people have finally adjusted to Azaans in the morning barring Sonu Nigam (if you know what we mean!).

5. Peacocks don’t mate, they cry!

Half of the nation orgasmed through peacock sex for almost a week when a Rajasthan High Court judge claimed that peacocks don’t consummate. Instead, a peahen gets pregnant after consuming a peacock’s tear.

6. Dhinchak Pooja- The Selfie Epidemic

Dhinchak Pooja was a social media survival test that we all have comfortably failed. So much was the overnight success of this cringe pop nightingale, that even Big Boss couldn’t take that much talent in the house for more than a week. Pun not intended!

7. Aunty Ki Ghanti

Not only did ‘RapKing’ Omprakash Mishra’s earworm become an internet sensation, it ended up becoming a well-planned event in Delhi, Noida and Mumbai with people storming the streets and shouting this one. We are still counting the collateral damage done.

8. Fidget Spinners

We don’t know about the anxiety part, but here’s to their contribution to world economy. Not to forget the jobs these annoying AF spinners created for the begging sector in our country. Traffic lights were a dread those days!

9. Hrithik- Kangana Spat

If there is anything that has our attention after Bermuda Triangle, it has to be the Hrithik and Kangana‘s sansanikhez affair. The next we know is FBI dealing with the emails or we wonder if Pope decides to intervene and ban emails once and for all.

Hrithik

10. #BoycottCCD with a cockroach for free

Things went a little downward spiral in March for CCD when Arpan Verma was slapped by a female staff of CCD when he complained about cockroaches in their food. Complaints were lodged and the brouhaha that went on Twitter had us taking espresso shots too, from Starbucks this time!

11. Padmavati And Karni Sena

The endless war between Karni Sena and the makers of Padmavati was the biggest highlight of the year. From Sanjay Leela Bhansali getting slapped to threats of beheading Deepika, this movie has gone through bigger things than a box office flop. Let’s hope Rani Padmini herself comes and takes the matter into her hands.

12. Esha Gupta and her pomegranate affair

She cracked the code to break the internet after making one hell of an entry with this photoshoot. Not to mention the cameo given by those pomegranates that kept haunting our newsfeed for no apparent reason.

Esha Gupta

Well, after all that we have been through, here’s Virat Kohli and Anushka Sharma who made sure December kept our newsfeed pretty and lovely!
