10 Facts About ‘Kaho Naa…Pyaar Hai’ That Will Make You Want To Watch The Movie Again
18 years ago, Bollywood found a new superstar in Hrithik Roshan and boy, we still love the movie.
‘Kaho Naa…Pyaar Hai’ gave India a Greek God and a new girl next door. Hrithik Roshan and Ameesha Patel became stars overnight. And there was a thing called Hrithik Mania all over the country. Almost 2 decades ago, Hrithik Roshan taught us ‘Hass kyunki duniya ko hai hasana’ and we said ‘Kaha naa.. pyaar hai’.
Here are a few lesser-known facts about the movie:
#1 Salman Khan had mentored Hrithik during training.
We all know how Salman has always supported new talent but the trend started with this movie and Hrithik. Hrithik was the assistant director for ‘Karan Arjun’ that starred Salman Khan and Shah Rukh Khan. Hrithik was skinny and the role required him to bulk up and he turned to Salman for guidance.
#2 The first choice for the lead was Shah Rukh Khan.
Rakesh Roshan was having a tough time with the ending of the movie. Apparently, there were two endings to the movie one was happy and the other was sad. It was Hrithik who suggested his dad that he should go with a new face because he has done many films with the Khans.
#3 The reason behind Kareena Kapoor Khan not making a debut in this movie.
Everyone knows that Kareena Kapoor Khan was the first choice for Sonia. The reason as reported by Stardust is that Kareena Kapoor’s mom, Babita didn’t want her daughter to wear a bikini in her first film. She went ahead to make a debut with Abhishek Bachchan in ‘Refugee’.
#4 Rakesh Roshan was shot after refusing Abu Salem a share of the film’s overseas collection.
On January 21st, 2000 two sharpshooters shot at Rakesh Roshan. Gangster Abu Salem wanted a share of profits the film earned overseas.Fortunately, Rakesh Roshan escaped death and the attackers were caught. In an interview with Simi Gerewal, Hrithik even revealed that he wanted to quit films because of the incident.
#5 The character, Raj was left handed for a reason.
Hrithik’s double thumb was camouflaged through gloves as Raj. The makers went to the extent of showing Raj as a lefty because they didn’t want to focus on the double thumb.
#6 Hrithik Roshan is the only actor who has won Best Actor and Best Debut (Male).
The success was phenomenal. ‘Kaho Naa…Pyaar Hai’ holds a record of 102 awards won by a movie. That’s the most number of awards any movie has won till date. Not only that, Hrithik Roshan is till date, the only actor who has won the Best Actor and Best Debut (Male) in the same year.
#7 Hrithik Roshan received 30 thousand marriage proposals after the movie released.
We don’t blame the girls though. But Hrithik Roshan and now ex-wife Suzzane Khan got married in December 2000.
#8 Coca-Cola signed Hrithik after the movie unintentionally promoted the product.
Throughout the movie, Coca-Cola was unintentionally placed and promoted. The brand later signed Hrithik Roshan as the brand ambassador.
#9 The glasses for Raj’s character were the same ones we saw Rohit wear in ‘Koi…Mil Gaya‘.
Rakesh Roshan wanted the two characters to look exactly similar. It was Hrithik’s idea to add the glasses. After 3 years, the father-son duo came together for Koi..Mil Gaya and we saw Rohit wear the same glasses.
#10 Post the release of the movie, there was a rise in visa applications for New Zealand.
The Hrithik Factor was true in all senses. The second half of the movie was shot in New Zealand.
Pointing out that the total investment in the expansion was US $ 0.5 million, Mr Healy says: “We call this additional area the `Hrithik Addition’. In fact, we invited Hrithik Roshan to open the building, but unfortunately he was away abroad.”
