7 Rules For Rocking The Athleisure Trend Right!
Workout wear that doubles up as streetwear. Is this the end of fashion as we know it? Apart from making its way into the dictionary, athleisure also seems to have made its way into our lives thanks to its ability as a trend to finally bridge the gap between fashion and comfort.
The trend seems to have found a champion in celebs like Gigi Hadid and Alia Bhatt for good reason. For the whole lot of us who live our lives on the go, constantly juggling between home, work and social activities, it really is a blessing.
If you’re considering giving into it, here are some guidelines to get you started:
1. Keep an eye out for the new arrivals in the gym section of your store.
Before it was socially acceptable to wear your gym clothes in public, all the workout clothes available in stores were basic and black and unflattering. Now you have a whole array of figure-flattering, multicoloured, multi-everything to choose from. When you pick out an outfit, make sure you’re opting for pieces made from performance fabrics that are both fashionable and functional.
2. Your #ootd should reflect who you are.
Wearing athleisure should be an extension of your own lifestyle – so make sure that you actually lead an active and healthy life.
3. Accessorise Right.
Throw on a pair of sunnies or a moto jacket or plaid shirt over your #ootd. Don’t be afraid to glam up your outfit with chic jewellery.
4. Exercise Restraint.
Athleisure is not a guilt-free pass to show up in your sports bra to a lunch date. Go easy with the skin show. Make sure you’re dressing for the occasion.
5. Layer up!
Baggy shirts, bomber jackets and sheer tops will be your best friend. Invest in those.
6. Choose your footwear right.
Don’t forget to put thought into your footwear too. Smelly sneakers are not what you need. Get yourself some trendy high-tops or casual heels.
7. Play safe when you’re in doubt.
Stick to a neutral palette with minimal prints and master the basics first before switching up your game.
