This Guy Travels The World With Only His Backpack And This “Mom, I’m Fine” Sign

How many of us have mothers who constantly worry? Whether we’re headed off to college or a holiday abroad, they worry all the same. So much so, that we’re almost always required to keep reassuring them saying, “Mom, I’m fine.”

This guy came up with the cleverest way to do it.

When Jonathan Kubben Quiñonez quit his job and announced to his family that he was going off on an adventure, his mum, though supportive of his dreams, was a little worried.  A business consultant in Brussels, Jonathan sold his car and began his journey by booking a one-way ticket to Cuba in March 2016. But when he got there, he had a tough time getting in touch with his family.

So on April 1st, 2016, he started @momimfine  on Instagram, uploading a photo from every new location holding a sign that reads: “MOM, I’M FINE.”

As he crossed cities, countries, and continents off his list, Quiñonez’s fan base grew steadily and he now has 242 thousand followers on Instagram. His mum even joined him on a trip to Indonesia.

A year later, what began with a son’s intention to soothe his mother’s fears has now become a global project with the purpose to inspire people to live their lives more meaningfully.

“Whatever your age is, if you have a latin mom and a passion for adventure, you will have to find a way to tell her that you are fine. This is my way,” says Jonathan.

I do wish I’d thought of something half as clever myself.

After spending pretty much all of my teen years waiting for a Hogwarts letter that never came, I gave up and settled for being a wizard with words instead. A hopeless romantic, when I’m not penning down short stories, I’m busy imagining my own happily ever after.
