CBFC Strikes Again, Asks To Delete Hanuman Chalisa From ‘Phillauri’

Central Board Of Film Certificate has been in the news, every time for the wrong reasons. From refusing to certify ‘Lipstick Under My Burkha’, to asking 89 cuts for ‘Udta Punjab’, it has been censoring more than enough forcing directors the freedom to choose the kind of movies that they want to.

Recently, CBFC asked the film directors to remove one scene from the movie because it would hurt ‘religious sentiments’.

A lengthy sequence showing actor Suraj Sharma reciting the Hanuman Chalisa in the bath tub in a ghost’s presence has been asked to go from Anshai Lal’s supernatural film, Phillauri. According to them, it is supposed to eradicate the ghost and not cool them. Also, CBFC appears to be fond of snakes.

So whenever there is a snake in the scene, they have to insert a scroll in a sequence featuring a snake to indicate no real snake has been hurt in the sequence, that it’s all computer graphics.

Phillauri, a supernatural drama directed by Anshai Lal features Anushka Sharma, Diljit Dosanjh, Suraj Sharma and Nidhi Bisht in pivotal roles. The film is produced by Anushka Sharma and her brother Karnesh Sharma. In the film, Anushka plays the role of Shashi whose love story remained unfinished in her lifetime.
